1 Corinthians 9:26 NLT
[26] So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing.
This shadow boxing thing could better be explained by my hubby. He used to box, and I’m sure has done plenty of this type of thing. I do know that he would much rather hit a heavy bag than to just to take blows into the air. This tells me that having this bag to hit, gives you a purpose of building your muscles…no longer slinging your arms in the air, there is something to focus on and a target to hit. You are disciplining those muscles.
This holds true in a race with a goal of doing better each race and bettering your time or distance. If you are just running in place it is hard to have a tangible target distance to hit. The prize is finishing strong.
How about the discipline needed to run the race of a Christian life? Having that type of “stick to it” purpose is way more important than the discipline of an athlete. You are basically in “on-the-job” training every day of your life. You face resistance from every side, but you keep on hitting it hard. There are roadblocks that pop up, but you keep on running the race and finish strong.
So, in the scheme of your life, there are no excuses. Every step has a purpose; you are not just throwing your arms in the air. You have a reason to be strong.
1 Corinthians 9:25-26 NLT
[25] All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. [26] So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing. #paulaandthebible #helpforyourdailywalk
