Rehearsal Not Needed

One of Webster’s definitions for rehearsal is “something recounted or told again”. If you are getting ready for a part in a play, you may go over (rehearse) your lines again and again. Why do you do that? You do it so that you don’t forget them.

When it comes to your past life, the one that was not so good, that rehearsal needs to be closed and finished with all the “props” put away. Your past is definitely a part of your story but is not what defines you.

What defines you now is your relationship with the Lord and His leadership. Those memories that keep being recounted over and over again in your mind must be put away. Rehearsing them everyday just keeps them vivid in a negative way.

Unless you truly realize that the old life is gone and the Lord has given you a new life in Him, you will continue to rehearse who you used to be. Be thankful that when you accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you became “His” and have a new home with a new life that doesn’t need you rehearsing that old one.
