Promises-Promises

You’ve probably heard or maybe even said yourself, “I promise I will do it!” And then a retort comes back, “Yeah right, promises-promises!” Do you think that there has been disappointment at some point by the person coming back at you because you have failed to follow through with a promise in the past?
Being disappointed causes us to doubt another person’s intentions. Having been on both sides of the “promise” scenario has given me perspective in the way responses are presented.
If you have been hurt in the past due to broken promises, holding on to that hurt only causes more pain. If you are the one that has damaged a relationship by not keeping a promise…convincing another person that you now have integrity can be difficult. Even though you are a different person than you used to be, the trust is broken and repairing can be heartbreaking, but not impossible.
The words that you read in the scriptures are not just words on a page. There are so many promises contained in these pages that fit every scenario you could imagine. They are meant to help you every single day. The best way to do that is to keep them in your heart and mind.
When you read them let, them penetrate into your very being. Don’t wait until you are in a tough spot to memorize those lines of scripture. Fill your mind, thoughts and memory to them now. There may be times when you don’t have access to a Bible, that is when you bring those promises from your memory and apply to your situation.
There is no disappointment found in the things God promises. If we are ever in a position of weakness, it is our doing, not His. He’s provided all we need.
