Open Your Heart

“But they have hurt me!” “They say such mean and cruel things!” “They are the ones that should be more loving!” “I’ve tried with them, and they just don’t care!” “I’m just over them and refuse to even give them the time of day!” “They have disappointed me one too many times!”
Do you recognize any of those excuses as being a stumbling block in any of your relationships? Well, I’ve been there and “have the T-shirt” so to speak. I started to realize that holding on to hurt and disappointment was getting me absolutely nowhere!
There comes a point in your life when you have to give up the hurt and toss it out like dirty dishwater. You can’t get your coffee cup really clean and ready for fresh coffee when you’re trying to wash it in cold water full of scraps from last night’s dirty dishes.
Have you been hurt? Sure. But holding on to that and allowing it to close off your heart is harmful to you.
Think of it this way. You can choose to open your heart in forgiveness and love the same as you did when you closed it off with unforgivable and unloving words. You can make fresh and warm “sudsy powerful water” by being more loving to those that can be difficult to love. Isn’t that better than trying to use the “same ole water” that is just making everyone simply miserable?
