On My Side

If you are an “only child”, you may not quite understand what I am talking about when I say it is good to have a brother or sister…but stick with me. I am the youngest of five kids, so I know a little something about how this sibling thing works. As the youngest, I learned pretty quickly how important it was to listen and learn. If you go against the grain of the rules, there were consequences with mom and dad.

This influence on my life kept me pretty obedient. There were times, though, when I was not the “perfect kid” and it was amazing to have a brother or a sister that could help me out of a bad situation.

That is what we have with Jesus. He is that brother that has his life together and will speak up on our behalf to our Father when we pray. We were “adopted” into Gods family when we accepted what Jesus did for us on the cross. He became our brother. He became that friend that sticks up for us with “dad”.

Whether you are from a big ole family or an “only child”, you have a wonderful family when you become a part of the family of God.

It is awesome to know that I have so many that are on my side in this life. You can have that too.

1 John 2:1b NLT

[1b] …we have an advocate who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who is truly righteous.
