An Undivided Heart

I used to hear the phrase, “too heavenly minded to be any earthly good” tossed around. When I heard that, it was a negative assessment of a person that had trouble relating to folks in the here and now because all they seem to be able to talk about was heaven or Jesus. Without meaning to, they became “unapproachable”.

As I look back on that, I can see why I “thought” that or heard it said about this person. They were so focused on their faith and so excited about it, they just couldn’t contain their witness. That is really not a “bad” thing, it just needed to be reined in a bit so others could be reached. In reality, we could all use a dose of that excitement and quit trying to please the world with a divided heart that shows no loyalty to the Lord at all.

It never has to be all or nothing though. We can keep our witness simple and sincere without pushing others away or them “turning a deaf ear” (so to speak) towards us. Again, it is one of those times where we complicate instead of simplifying.

We should navigate and behave with “simplicity and Godly sincerity”. People will recognize the difference between you and others, but not in a negative sense.

You want your witness to be pure and relatable. Your goal is to win others to Christ, not necessarily fit in, but not push away either. Be ready with your ears open to hear the need. Always be approachable in your witness and definitely share when you have the opportunity.
