What does it mean to you to have friends you love and trust?
For me…everything!!
I have had so many “surfacy” friends in my life. Those that “say” they are friends, but when the road gets bumpy, they are gone! You need them to be there to help you up from the despair you are experiencing.
A true friend is someone that will drive from St Louis to Cape Girardeau just to make sure you are okay. Or someone that will get on the phone with you and let you cry. Or someone who knows all your heartaches and trials (the good bad and the ugly) of your life and still loves you. They know you have been strong for a long time but realize that strength is weakening day by day.
What I came to understand (way too late in my life), is that the most important love and friendship I could ever have was God's love and the Holy Spirit living within me. There was no reason to feel alone or so sad. I could trust this friend would be my strength when I had none.
The words from Toy Story (believe it or not) sum it up.
“When the road looks rough ahead
And you're miles and miles from your nice warm bed
You just remember what your old pal said
Boy, you've got a friend in me
Yeah, you've got a friend in me”
You Got a Friend in Jesus whose Spirit is within you.
2 Corinthians 13:14 TLB
[14] May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. May God's love and the Holy Spirit's friendship be yours. Paul
