Teach by Example

As parents and grandparents, we need to keep a check on our lifestyle and attitudes. We are not just examples of how to live on “Sunday go to meeting” day, but on every day of the week.

We have “little eyes” or “grownup children eyes” watching our every move. Being that good, fair and loving person on Sunday is important. But being that same loving example is just as important on Monday or any day you rise out of bed. Sometimes your compassion for other people could be misunderstood, but you are showing by example how Jesus loves others regardless of their status in life.

Are we gonna mess up a little from time to time … of course. Don’t beat yourself up over that. Just do better. Talk to your kids about how Jesus has helped you through things. Show by example how much you love Jesus by how you treat those who have hurt you. Give them a reason to speak well of you whenever your name is spoken.

And for you grown children out there notice changes for the good in your mom or dad, let them know. They more times than not want to meet your expectations. Give them a chance to show you who they are at this point in their life. Don’t be so hard on them.

Spending time as an adult with my mom helped me understand so many things. She may not have done everything right, but she tried to do better as a mom and I could see that. She absolutely knew I loved her and I knew she loved me. Being raised by a strict disciplinarian wasn’t always easy, but I loved her so much and she knew it.

Deuteronomy 6:6-9 MSG

Write these commandments that I’ve given you today on your hearts. Get them inside of you and then get them inside your children. Talk about them wherever you are, sitting at home or walking in the street; talk about them from the time you get up in the morning to when you fall into bed at night. Tie them on your hands and foreheads as a reminder; inscribe them on the doorposts of your homes and on your city gates. #paulaandthebible #helpforyourdailywalk
