Keep Those Weeds Pulled

We are fresh out of the gardening season, but this illustration requires us to go back into the weeds.
Years ago, I raised a Huge (with a capital H) garden. At the initial stage of the planting, it was beautiful, with nothing but rows and rows of small plants and rich soil. I put the package on a stick beside each section so I wouldn’t forget what was planted. I stepped back, took a deep sigh and thought to myself “this garden, in my eyes is perfection.”
As my beautiful garden grew, another thing happened that tried to steal that perfection. WEEDS!!! I had to take a hoe to those pesky thieves before they took over my entire garden plot. If I hadn’t handled the weeds situation early on, they would have gotten out of hand, and I would’ve been tempted to allow them to choke out what turned out to be a very nice harvest of vegetables.
The same is true with our lives. We start out with a clean slate and take great care of our own individual decisions. We make sure that we follow the instructions for becoming a Christian and line ourselves up with and identify with the correct teachings. Then all of a sudden (or maybe over time) we allow some form of social or emotional “weed” to disrupt Gods best for us.
When we recognize that we are not where we should be in our walk with God, it is time to (as Barney Fife would say) “Nip it in the bud!” Get rid of anything that is not allowing you to grow in YOUR garden of life. You mustn’t let those things take root. If you do, it could not only affect you but also affect many of your friends and family.
Take a hoe to those (somewhat small at the moment) bitter weeds popping up, so they don’t blossom into full grown problems in your life.
Hebrews 12:15b NLT
[15b] Watch out that no poisonous root of bitterness grows up to trouble you, corrupting many. #paulaandthebible #helpforyourdailywalk
