Do You Have a Snakepit for a Mind

I am using The Message translation today for our devotional because it says plainly what we need to hear about our thoughts and our words.
If you are genuinely a good person, good things show in your life. These good things come from a heart that is free from a foul snake pit of a mind. It is true that you become what you think about.
You’ve heard it said, “A tree is identified by its fruit. If a tree is good, its fruit will be good. If a tree is bad, its fruit will be bad.” If your desire is to produce a reputation of goodness, it starts in those thoughts. They need to be good and righteous. Those good thoughts will then show in the way you speak to and treat others.
Matthew 12:34-37 MSG
[34-37] "You have minds like a snake pit! How do you suppose what you say is worth anything when you are so foul-minded? It's your heart, not the dictionary, that gives meaning to your words. A good person produces good deeds and words season after season. An evil person is a blight on the orchard. Let me tell you something: Every one of these careless words is going to come back to haunt you. There will be a time of Reckoning. Words are powerful; take them seriously. Words can be your salvation. Words can also be your damnation."
