Worthy of Respect

I’ve always been taught to respect my elders. Even if someone was a mean old codger, I still said “yes sir or no sir”. That’s just how I was raised.
I noticed something in today’s scripture that just popped out at me. Paul wanted Titus to address the “older” men before anyone else. He did address the women and younger folks too, but the older guys needed to be living right to set the example.
They had to be worthy of respect. In order for them to be in this position, there was a key ingredient that needed to be exercised…Self Control.
You can’t be respectful or be respected if you are flying off the handle all the time. If you’re always in a bad mood or living by your emotions, how do others know when it’s safe to approach you? Where is your patience and how does these reactions show any kind of love?
(See photo for some examples of how self-control is manifested in a life)
Be self-disciplined to the point that you are totally living with love and patience and being wise in all your decisions. (Even though today’s verse is addressing older men, it can apply to women as well)
Titus 2:2 NLT
[2] Teach the older men to exercise self-control, to be worthy of respect, and to live wisely. They must have sound faith and be filled with love and patience. #helpforyourdailywalk #paulaandthebible
