True Friendship

Finding true friendships can be hard to come by these days, but oh so worth it. Having someone that has your best interest at heart is one of the most valuable things in your life. Sometimes, that friend is also family. But whether they are family by birth, by choice or by marriage…the point is, they are there for you.

I know you’ve heard this from me in the past, but it is worth repeating. “To have a friend, you must be a friend.” To expect the kind of friendships that you desire will require some effort on your part. They don’t normally just fall in your lap.

Maybe ask yourself the hard question… “would I want a friend like me?” If you are not willing to accept responsibility for the actions you take to make life better for another person, well, there’s the problem. If you’re making excuses instead of admitting the truth, then you’re only making excuses. You are not serious about making life better for others and in turn better for you.

Be that sweet friend that listens, and that effort should come back to you in sweet friendships.

Proverbs 27:9 NLT

[9] The heartfelt counsel of a friend is as sweet as perfume and incense.
