The Past is the Past

I can’t count how many times I’ve lost weight only to gain it back again. It has been so bad that I recently had someone say to me, after seeing my weight loss on Facebook, “Oh, I didn’t know you had put your weight back on!” Of course, it had been years since I had seen her, but still. When those type of things happen, it is a little bit of a stab, if you know what I mean.
What was happening? In hearing this, it reminded me of my past failures of losing weight and then putting it back on. I “could” allow this to affect me in either a negative way or a positive way.
Negative: Dwell on past yo-yo life choices to the point of just going ahead and returning to that same pattern of eating. That is the very definition of a “fool repeating his foolishness”.

Positive: Learn that if I continue to lose and gain…lose and gain…lose and gain, my health will suffer, and I will have all sorts of aches and pains that are preventable. As I learn and understand the impact of my diet, I become more aware of what I am eating and how it affects me.
The verse today is impactful partly because what it is saying is a little gross. Who wants to be someone that returns to old habits like a dog returning to its vomit? Yuck! Not me.
I have all of you to hold me accountable and I can be that for you. As we age, let’s do it right, with no regrets. Let’s live long and strong and not be foolish.
Proverbs 26:11 NLT
[11] As a dog returns to its vomit, so a fool repeats his foolishness. #helpforyourdailywalk #paulaandthebible
