The Light of the World

There is an old hymn called, “The Light of the World is Jesus”. In today’s verse Jesus says to those around Him and to us, “YOU are the light of the world”. We carry His light.
In Matthew 5, Jesus sat down with His disciples to teach them. I love how He wanted to be sure they knew the things that would help them; just as He wants that for us today. He took the time to impart and be that teaching light for them.
He was enlightening them on the things that bring blessing. Then He told them they were salt and light to the world. Salt is no good if there is nothing there to give it flavor. We have to have the teachings of Jesus embedded in us so we can bring that flavor to the world.
As you know, there is no darkness when there is light. We are that light that shines in this dark world. If we don’t let our light that comes from Jesus ... shine, how will the world see in that darkness that overtakes them?
When we let the light of Jesus shine, it cannot be hidden. We will be like a city that is all lit up with “city lights”. It is not only a beautiful sight; we can lead others to the safety of the original light of the world…Jesus!
