When I was working in the Corporate World, many nights were spent looking at the time on the clock and thinking, “If I get to sleep now, I will get ____ amount of sleep!” It was awful! Some nights the last time I glanced over at those numbers I would realize I would maybe get 3 hours of sleep before hearing the unpleasant sound of an alarm. The stress of my life was crazy. I’d take up too much space to explain it all.
Another period in my life, I was going through a terribly sad and stressful time that seemed unbearable. Because I couldn’t clear my mind of the mess my life was in at the moment, most nights my eyes wouldn’t even shut before 3am in the morning. It was such a messed-up time, everything was so heavy on my heart, I thought my heart would break. No sleep played a part in keeping me in that hopeless state.
Then there was the time I caught someone trying to break into my home. Bobby was working nights. I slept with a butcher knife under my pillow and would worry until sleep would finally come. I finally realized the butcher knife wasn’t such a good idea, but the sword of the Word was what I needed.
Do I still have times when sleep is elusive? Absolutely! That’s when I do some self-examination and make sure I am living in the peace that passes all understanding. If I’ve allowed fear, worry, sin or stress an opening- time to get rid of that stuff and totally believe Proverbs 3:24.
I have written this verse out and is on my bedside table now. I say it out loud every night before I put my head on my pillow. That sword will help to cut through the trouble and give peaceful rest.
We all need our rest for many reasons…mostly to feel good and be healthy in mind, body and soul! Don’t be Four days past your bedtime LOL
Proverbs 3:24 NASB95
[24] When you lie down, you will not be afraid; When you lie down, your sleep will be sweet. #helpforyourdailywalk #paulaandthebible
