That Look

“…the Lord turned and looked at Peter…”
Oh man! That look from Jesus must’ve hit Peter right in the gut. Knowing just a short time before, he had promised his friend and mentor that he would never deny or desert him.
I saw that look from my dad once when I had disappointed him as a teenager. It was a look I never wanted to see again. A rooster didn’t crow, and lightning didn’t flash, but the hurt I caused him, and mom was as if the earth shook beneath my feet.
I was not a “bad” teen by any means, but I still found a way to lie and get caught by those who trusted me the most.
The thing is, even after betraying them, they still loved me more than I could’ve ever comprehended at the time. (Just as Jesus still loved Peter) Their love didn’t depend on me doing all the right things.
Maybe you feel as though you’ve done too much for Jesus to love you. Maybe you feel as though you are just a big ole disappointment. It’s time for you to hear the truth (“hear the rooster crow” so to speak) and decide to look at Jesus and know how much He loves you. He died for you.
Luke 22:61 NLT
[61] At that moment the Lord turned and looked at Peter. Suddenly, the Lord's words flashed through Peter's mind: "Before the rooster crows tomorrow morning, you will deny three times that you even know me."
