Power Tools

When we had my nephew come and install our TV over the coffee station a few weeks ago, he brought his power drill. As he got out all the supplies, he realized the bit that he needed to get it properly screwed in the wall was not there.
We have the best neighbors, and I knew one of them would have what we needed. I couldn’t imagine any of them having what I needed and telling me that I couldn’t borrow it from them. They did have exactly what we needed and graciously let us use it.
But what if I would have been afraid to go and at least ask the question?
Let’s say for example, my neighbors weren’t as nice as mine obviously are, and I faced the same situation or maybe something else that I needed them for. Sort of like the neighbor in “Home Alone”. He was there when Kevin needed him. But in the beginning of the movie, Kevin had fear instilled in him from his brother about that neighbor. It took Kevin facing that fear to realize the old man next door was a really good guy. (As a side note: Kevin faced a lot of fears in that movie)
Our fears can actually paralyze us to the point of never stepping out of our home, much less meet our neighbors or anyone else out there. It keeps us from doing what we know we need to do and, in some cases, to survive. We believe that the word “no” is the worst thing in the world to hear, so we never ask the question.
Our verse is straight forward today. If we live in a state of fear, we are not accessing the “power tools” available to us.
What has God made available?
Power. Love. *Self-Discipline. And much more.
Use those tools.
2 Timothy 1:7 NLT
For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline. #paulaandthebible #helpforyourdailywalk
