Only Fools Rush In

The first line in an Elvis song is “Wise men say, only fools rush in”. That is helpful to know and should be digested to aid in keeping us in healthy relationships. We get that advice from scripture as well. Our verse today distinguishes between wise and foolish.

It’s the next two words in that Elvis song that get people in trouble. “But I”. “Wise men say, only fools rush in, but I”. Ut oh! Herein lies the problem. We know something is foolish, yet in our selfishness, we do or say it anyway.
Mark Twain once said, “Better to keep your mouth shut, and appear stupid, than to open it and remove all doubt.” Woah! Way to get right to the point Mark. Keeping our mouth shut is a tough one for some folks…and you know why? It’s that selfish “but I” that gets in there and messes ya up.
Maybe you do have something profound to add to the conversation, that doesn’t mean you always need to interject that on everyone. Be wise. No need to rush in without thinking how your words or even the attitude contained in your words will hurt others. Is what you say really gonna help, or will it do damage to your relationship?
Proverbs 13:16 NLT
[16] Wise people think before they act; fools don't-and even brag about their foolishness. #helpforyourdailywalk #paulaandthebible
