If you have ever seen any version of “The Titanic”, you will understand when I say that it is so important to really KNOW God. How comforting it must have been to hear the orchestra as the ship was sinking play, “Nearer My God to Thee”.
I can’t imagine the terror of that fateful night in the hearts of those onboard, especially those that didn’t know God. But to those with a relationship with Him, hearing that tune, helped to bring assurance and comfort that if they didn’t make it to a lifeboat, they would be with God. We are told that 1,517 lives were lost in the icy waters.
Among those lost, were all of the brave orchestra members. A newspaper at the time reported "the part played by the orchestra on board the Titanic in her last dreadful moments will rank among the noblest in the annals of heroism at sea."
When you sing the verse of “Away in a Manger”, “Be near me Lord Jesus, I ask Thee to stay close by me forever…”, let it be a blessed assurance in your heart. You know Him as your refuge because you KNOW Him as your Lord.
Psalm 73:28 NASB95
[28] But as for me, the nearness of God is my good; I have made the Lord GOD my refuge, That I may tell of all Your works. #paulaandthebible #helpforyourdailywalk
