Do you have a huckleberry (true friend) in your life or are you that for someone?

Many years ago, there was a young impressionable teenage girl that got off the path that God had for her. Her mom and dad were close to me, and knew I loved their daughter, and that I wanted good for her. When I asked her mom after church one Sunday how her daughter was doing and how I missed seeing her, she broke down in tears.

She shared that her daughter wanted more than anything to come back to church, but because of the things she had been involved with, didn’t think anyone would want her there. Without any hesitation, I told her that I wanted her there and would sit by her proudly as a sister. (I became her “huckleberry”). I would sit with her anywhere in the sanctuary.

I wanted to assure her mom that my friendship didn’t depend on her being without mistakes. My friendship was solid in spite of those errors in judgment.

Sure, she shouldn’t have been doing wrong things. But God knew her heart and I’m thankful for my part in reminding this family how firm our foundation is in the Lord. He is not shaken and knows who are His. I might also add that He forgives and forgets.

I am not trying to say that “I am all that and a bag of chips”. There are plenty of times that I have missed opportunities to step up for someone during a difficult time. I just know that we should all do better in being there for our friends in the good and the bad. Be somebody’s huckleberry!

2 Timothy 2:19 TLB

[19] But God's truth stands firm like a great rock, and nothing can shake it. It is a foundation stone with these words written on it: "The Lord knows those who are really his," and "A person who calls himself a Christian should not be doing things that are wrong." #helpforyourdailywalk #paulaandthebible
