Having Salt, or Being Salty

Salt. The Salty Life. A Life of Too Much Salt. A Life of Not Enough Salt. Bland Tasteless Boring Salt. Salt With Too Many Additives. Salt From a Good Source. Guess what’s needed in this list? Balance.

We think of salt most times as a seasoning that adds flavor to a dish that would otherwise be bland. But if you “stump your toe” (a mom saying) and put too much salt in there, your dish would become “too salty”, and many of you would make a call for “carry-out”. When the balance is gone in a homemade dish, the outcome is disastrous.

We have the same thing to contend with in our lives…balance. We are to be the salt in the world but not become so salty that others avoid being around us. The qualities of salt would be the things that add value to yourself and others. You know…the fruit of the Spirit qualities. But included in the “balance” is living at peace with ourselves and others.

Remember when living a life of salt…there is such a thing as too much and not enough. Trying to “fit in” and trying to be a “know-it-all Christian. Balance it out by just being who God wants you to be…a loving wise person with the right amount of seasoning.

Mark 9:50 NLT

[50] Salt is good for seasoning. But if it loses its flavor, how do you make it salty again? You must have the qualities of salt among yourselves and live in peace with each other."
