Finding Time to Rest

Rest must be important or else it wouldn’t be mentioned in the scriptures. Be sure to read the entire 23rd chapter of Psalm. It is a very familiar passage that many have memorized. If you are like me, you have these words in your memory, but don’t always realize we probably should be taking time to let the Lord (our Shepherd) give us the type of rest we need.
We live in a world that is fast paced…It just is, and we feel as though if we don’t get with it, we will miss something. So what if you are not at every single thing in the “What’s Happening “section (on Facebook) of your town! It will go on without you, and you will still be fine.
Find a place in your busy life to rejuvenate. Maybe it’s a spot in your home by the fireplace with a good book or a quiet corner table in a coffee house; maybe you are able to be around those “still waters” mentioned in today’s verse, rest there; maybe it is sitting on your deck, porch or patio just fixing your gaze on the peaceful surroundings…the idea is to rest.
I know in my own life, I have to purposely carve out “me time” or it just doesn’t happen. I never want to appear selfish, and this sometimes causes me to be “selfless” (less mindful of what I need for my own life).
We need to take care of ourselves, and Psalm 23 gives us a clue where we can find the rest we need. I love that he used the word “peaceful”. We all need a little of that “peaceful easy feeling” we get resting in the arms of our Shepherd. Relaxing in His beautiful creation.
Rest. Don’t be lazy, bust find the time to do some of that major resting. You’ll thank me for it later.
Psalm 23:2 NLT
[2] He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams.
