But Everybody Else is Doing It

If you are like me, you have heard the following phrase (or something similar) at one time or another from your parents, “Just because your friends are jumping off a bridge, doesn’t mean you have to follow!”

I’ll say to you right now, “Just because it seems that everyone is doing something, doesn’t make it right!” We are so prone to “follow the crowd” for whatever reason and it can get us into deep trouble if we’re not careful.

The scripture today tells us that we have “no obligation to do what our sinful nature urges us to do.” We can put those urges to death through the power of the Holy Spirit that lives within us.

You don’t have to do what everybody else is doing. These things can lead to destruction and ultimately messing up your entire life. Set yourself apart by being true to your convictions. Allow God to direct your path.

Allow the Lord to be your shepherd. He will lead you, restore you and give you peace…So much better than following the crowd into the abyss.

Romans 8:12-13 NLT

[12] Therefore, dear brothers and sisters, you have no obligation to do what your sinful nature urges you to do. [13] For if you live by its dictates, you will die. But if through the power of the Spirit you put to death the deeds of your sinful nature, you will live.
