I’ve heard it said that compassion is not something that you automatically have…it is something that is developed. This should actually be a relief to some people. This means that no one is hopeless. And let me tell you, I’ve been around some nasty acting people that sure seem that way (hopeless in the compassion/kindness category)
.
Today’s scripture tells us that the Lord is gracious and FULL of compassion. And also let me remind you of how this can be accomplished. In the last part of the verse, it says that He is slow to anger and GREAT in mercy.
This being great in mercy thing…is so important. Everyone needs kindness and compassion extended towards them in their own lives. If WE need this, then others do too. We should start developing our own compassion by extending kind acts to and for others. It doesn’t have to be a monumental display of “look what I did” kind of event (if that’s your only reason, it’s a start, but you can do better) you need your heart in the right place…off of you and on others.
Start doing kind things for your friends, your family, your neighbors and even strangers. Instead of looking for ways to be angry, look for ways to better love and be helpful to them.
As Mother Theresa once said, “Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier.”
Psalm 145:8 NKJV
