There was a scene in “A Christmas Story” that comes to mind today. There were a group of kids around a flagpole on a really cold day. They had “double dog dared” a kid to put his tongue on said pole and see if it would stick. You could not be dared like that in front of all your buds and not follow through with it. So, he did it and it stuck. The bell rang and they all left him stuck there.

When they were asked where their friend was, instead of owning up to what happened, they pretended they were innocent and knew nothing. In their mind, they had gotten away with being dishonest and would probably do it again. Ralphie was a perfect example throughout the movie of telling fibs to get out of trouble. He was the total opposite of integrity.

Yes, I know he was just a kid. But he sure had a way of NOT doing the right thing to get away with something. We should teach our kids how important honesty is at all times. As adults, being a trustworthy person should just be a natural way of being and doing.

Having integrity is such an essential part of being a good person. You shouldn’t need to be praised for being a nice person. It should flow out of living right and being guided by your relationship with God. The opposite of integrity is perversion, and that kind of living destroys you and makes life difficult. A good life and being a good person are the way to go.

Be faithful to following the path of integrity and do what is right, no matter who is watching.

Proverbs 11:3 NKJV

[3] The integrity of the upright will guide them, But the perversity of the unfaithful will destroy them.
