Compassion vs Condemnation

We have a tendency toward condemning people for messing up with their lives. There is no way we could ever see ourselves doing what they have done, so we decide to be judge and jury over their decisions

.

This judgement is, in a word, “wrong”.

We are ready to stone their reputation and smear them to their family and to their peers. No second chances allowed in this way of thinking and doing.

Maybe their faults are more visible in nature than yours, but I guarantee, “you have them.” You may appear to be this “perfect”; “got it all together”; “religious” individual. But know this…when there are things in your life you are not proud of; you would want compassion not stones.

Here’s the thing, I’m not going to condemn you either. That is not my place.

The pious religious leaders, (they followed the letter of the law of Moses) in today’s scripture brought a woman that had been caught in the act of adultery before Jesus to bring judgement on her (very visible) sin. They were not expecting to see the compassion and wisdom that came from Jesus. He taught a very important lesson to all that were there, and all the stones fell to the ground.

We all have personal failures in our lives. We should understand that Jesus has a compassionate way of addressing this. We are not condemned; we are simply told to “go and sin no more”. How awesome it would be if we all approached others in the same way.

Remember that Jesus was sent to us as the substitution for ALL of our sins. (Those that are visible and not so visible). When we accept what He did for us on the cross, we are forgiven and are admonished to “live our lives for Him”. We are made righteous through Him. Thank goodness for that.

John 8:10-11 NLT

[10] Then Jesus stood up again and said to the woman, "Where are your accusers? Didn't even one of them condemn you?" [11] "No, Lord," she said. And Jesus said, "Neither do I. Go and sin no more." #paulaandthebible #helpforyourdailywalk
