Character in the Squeeze

When something or someone is “squeezed” what's inside comes out. Whether we are talking about a tube of toothpaste or the life of an individual … the inside contents show when there is a squeeze. You can’t hide the inside from the squeeze.

It is easy to appear good and “pretend” you have it all together when things are going well. When the “squeeze of life” takes a turn … your true character emerges on to the scene. What does that look like?

Remember when Joseph’s life took a turn that could’ve been so different if his character wasn’t intact? His very own brothers sold him into slavery. He could have been bitter towards those guys for the rest of his life.

But when he had the chance to “get back at them” … he didn’t retaliate. He instead did what was right and good. He reassured them even after their father’s death that they had nothing to fear from him. He told them in Gen. 50:20, “You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good.” That was showing his true character of integrity and love.

That should be our goal. We should want the character of integrity and honesty and honor to come forth every day. Our good character should show in the good times and when our life takes a “squeeze” or two.

Proverbs 27:19 ERV
