The term “reckless abandon” is often thought of as a negative thing. The word reckless, is not a positive word. Even Webster defines it as “marked by lack of proper caution: careless of consequences”. We were taught growing up to beware of doing careless things. Those careless activities could cause us harm.

But as kids, we were carefree (didn’t have a care in the world). Jumping in a pile of leaves without knowing what's underneath was a common occurrence. We didn’t care who was watching, who would get angry or how silly we may look. We jumped with all our might and did it over and over again.

When we say to worship God with “reckless abandon”, it turns into a positive activity for us. We don’t need to be so concerned about what others may think about it. When David danced before the Lord, his thoughts were not on “who’s watching and what they might think”. His thoughts were entirely on the Lord. He was carefree and devoted to worshiping the Lord and being thankful for His blessings.

Be carefree and devoted to God. Don’t allow the opinion of others to steal your joy in worship.
