When you hear, “train your children the right way to go, and when they are older, they will not depart from it”, what is really being said? First of all, what is not being said is that your kids will always do the right thing. They will always remember what to do and do it.

When you have kids, you become the one that they watch and look up to. They see how you handle situations and learn how to do deal with things in their own lives. So, the burden of example falls on the mom and/or dad. You are large and in charge in those formative years. What you teach them matters.

We must prepare our kiddos for the future. Not just the future here on earth (which is crazy right now), but where they will spend their life after they die. When we have taught them, they now know. So, when they are older, they have that teaching in their heart and can always draw on the Word. No matter what they’ve been through, and no matter where they are, they can use what they were taught to get through the tough times.

Maybe as a parent you have already raised your kids and messed up in their upbringing. This is where “praying” comes in. You pray that you or someone close to them (if they live away from you), reaches them on a level where change takes place in their lives. They need a relationship with Jesus today more than ever to face all the challenges we are facing.

“Each day of our lives, we make deposits in the memory banks of our children.” Charles Swindoll
