Have you ever played the game, “Did/have you ever”? You pose a question to another person, and they have to be truthful with their answer.
For example: “Did you (or have you) ever stretched the truth?” Now this answer that is given back has to be truthful. Can you see the difficulty in trying to answer this truthfully when they have been someone that sidestepped the truth for their entire life?
It may have been so easy to stretch the truth that it became a habit and almost seemed right to them. But, regardless of how it seemed to them, it is still very wrong. This deception will eventually catch up with them and lead to their destruction.
A smart person would see the wisdom in always telling the truth, but it takes more than knowing. It takes doing. It takes integrity to take the steps necessary to begin a life of honesty. Whether that stretching the truth thing has saved you in the past or not, it is time to take the road that doesn’t lead to your demise.
Proverbs 16:25 TLB
[25] Before every man there lies a wide and pleasant road he thinks is right, but it ends in death.
