When you read the ten commandments that were given to Moses, they are all important. There is one of them that is so important that it comes with a promise.
I never really paid attention to what was said in Ephesians ABOUT that commandment when I was growing up as a kid. I just knew I was to honor my mom and dad. Despite any flaws they may or may not have had, I should honor them. I should honor them in how I obeyed them, how I respected them and how I loved them as my folks.
As I have matured and really started digging a little more into scripture, I see that there is more to it than just doing the right things in respect to our parents. It is a more serious than just doing and saying things.
That word honor means to hold in high esteem and treat with great respect. How many of you have been honoring the ones who gave you life?
Maybe their lives haven’t reflected only the good…that is where forgiveness has to take place for your peace of mind. Even if there is mental illness, you can still honor them by saying good to them. Even if they have passed on, honor their memory.
“If” you honor them, this promise comes with it. “All will go well for you, and you will have a long life here on the earth.” There will be struggles and personalities to deal with along the way, but I love that promise.
Ephesians 6:2-3 NLT
[2] "Honor your father and mother." This is the first commandment with a promise: [3] If you honor your father and mother, "things will go well for you, and you will have a long life on the earth." #paulaandthebible #helpforyourdailywalk
