You Can Do Hard Things

When you look at the life of Moses, you see just how strong and courageous he must have been. He did some miraculous things and led the Israelites through some unbelievable hardships. The last verse about Moses before Joshua was given this command to be strong and courageous was Deuteronomy 34:12. “With mighty power, Moses performed terrifying acts in the sight of all of Israel.”

Now it was time for Joshua to take the leadership role with the Israelite people. And we have seen from their wandering around in the wilderness, that they weren’t the easiest to guide and shepherd. They actually took stubborn to another level.

This is why I think the Lord repeated “be strong and courageous” 3 times in his charge to Joshua. He wanted to assure him that he could do hard things.

How would he have the strength and courage to do hard things with difficult folks? How could he fight the enemies that would come against him? The answer is found in Joshua 1:5 “No one will be able to stand against you as long as you live. For I will be with you as I was with Moses. I will not fail you or abandon you.” And also, in the last half of today’s verse, “the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

When you take an honest look at your own life, when was the last time you didn’t have a choice but to be strong and brave? How much better would it be to have the Lord on your side guiding you and providing strength and protection?

Be strong and courageous…yes but do it with the assurance that the Lord is with you wherever you go and whatever you may face.

Joshua 1:9 NLT

[9] This is my command-be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go."
