The Grapevine

Heard It Through the Grapevine…Many of you remember the song from the commercial about California Raisins. Some of you don’t have a clue. Haha. Basically, it was a song about having heard something but didn’t want to reveal your source of how you were made aware, and would say those words, “I heard it through the grapevine.”
Let’s think about that for second. How reliable is that? Could there have been a break at some point in that source? Unless you hear it “from the horse's mouth”, so to speak, there is a good chance some of the details could have been distorted or changed. There is a disconnect from the source to the fruit down the line. The grapevine has a break.
The actual “fruit of the vine” must be connected to the vine in order to flourish and produce beautiful grapes. That connection can’t be distorted by a break from its source, or those grapes will dry up to a raisin and not become what they were intended.
As Christians, we should never want a watered-down version of hearsay gospel. We should want to be a part of the good news that comes straight from God. Sometimes I wonder how there can be so many interpretations of the same Bible. Do you suppose it is because many of those that share, are only parroting back what they have “heard” over the years instead of digging in and tasting the truth (fruit of the vine) for themselves?
There is that part in scripture that says, “study to show yourself approved”. And today’s verse gives us a clue as to how that is done. “Remain in Me (by studying) and my words remain in you”. In other words, stay connected (tied) to the Vine…your true source of truth. You are known by your fruit. Become what you were intended to be.
John 15:5,7-8 NLT
[5] "Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing. [7] But if you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted! [8] When you produce much fruit, you are my true disciples. This brings great glory to my Father.
