Sheep Among Wolves

Jesus informed the disciples before He sent them out to witness for Him that they would be sheep among a world of wolves. He used this description so they would understand what to expect and how to react.
Their reaction was for them to be “shrewd as a serpent while still being harmless as a dove”. Not an easy assignment. Other ways of expressing this could be “compassionate yet wise and strong minded” “soft-hearted not soft-brained”.
The world we live in is complex with more evil than we can even imagine. I listen to and watch current events with my mouth agape in shock that we have been so trusting to the point we’ve missed so much of what has been happening right under our nose. We, as God fearing, people-loving Americans, have big hearts and want to think everyone is like us. But they aren’t. There are wolves that are possessed and obsessed with so much hatred that they will do atrocities with no remorse.
How did this happen?
We forgot to let the shrewdness kick in. We started accepting the wolves of our society, because, after all, we are simple sheep with no voice (lie). We became so soft hearted, our brains became soft. We stopped being aware of the evil. We went along with the crowd because we didn’t want to be seen as radical Christians. Now look at us.
Where do we go from here?
We become aware of the wolves that are trying to devour us. We don’t neglect our own spiritual growth. We develop our discernment to distinguish between good and evil. We are vigilant to protect ourselves and be aware of our surroundings. We stay in touch with each other and pray for our family, friends and our nation. We don’t shy away from speaking the truth. We share Jesus and His teachings to a world that may not accept it, but you share it anyway. Be shrewd (wise) as you traverse through this time in history.
Take a stand for good. Take a stand for the Lord. “The Lord is good, and His mercy endures forever”
Matthew 10:16 NLT
[16] "Look, I am sending you out as sheep among wolves. So be as shrewd as snakes and harmless as doves.
