Rest Physically and Spiritually

Most all of us realize when we have pushed ourselves to the limit and must rest. How many do it without guilt of any kind?
I was speaking to one of my nieces about this very thing the other day. When I worked in the Corporate World, I had a multitude of things to finish during my workday. When those 30 or more things on my list didn’t all get accomplished, I was hard on myself. But the fact of the matter was, most WERE done, and I had to call it a day and go home to rest from that pressure cooker world.
When Jesus was dealing with those that needed Him, He took the time to rest. He realized even He needed some “me” time to rest physically.
In today’s verse in Hebrews we are seeing another kind of rest. It is a “resting in Him” kind of rest. He did the work on the cross, we do our part by listening and accepting what He did there. We can wear ourselves out trying to be good enough and do all the right things.
Once we open our hearts and believe and confess “Jesus is Lord” then we enter that rest. This rest is the peace of not needing to earn His love, it’s already there.
Does this mean you can can go “live like the devil” now? Absolutely not! It means you can rest in knowing the work is done and now you live for Him because you want to please Him.
Hebrews 4:7 NLT
[7] So God set another time for entering his rest, and that time is today. God announced this through David much later in the words already quoted: "Today when you hear his voice, don't harden your hearts."
