Put Your Hand in My Hand, Not My Gut

Rather than hitting someone back (verbally) when you are attacked by their words; offer your hand of peace and show God’s love in how you answer them. That takes the “wind out of their sails” and causes them to react much differently than they would have.

We are never to return evil for evil. When you start doing that, today’s scripture says it will never leave your house. It becomes a vicious circle making you dizzy with regret and just downright ugliness. Who wants that?

We need each other. We need peace. We need to meet the mean folks with the hand of peace and love that comes from knowing the Author of peace and love. Stand with each other in that conviction of “no matter what” peace with your brother/sister/friend is the goal. Stop disputes before they even start with love and the hand of peace.

A song written by Russ and Tori Taff gives us a clue how to make that happen. Here’s the chorus:

“You're my brother, you're my sister

So take me by the hand

Together we will work until He comes

There's no foe that can defeat us

When we're walking side by side

As long as there is love

We will stand”

Proverbs 17:13-14 NLT

[13] If you repay good with evil, evil will never leave your house. [14] Starting a quarrel is like opening a floodgate, so stop before a dispute breaks out.
