Pay Attention

There was a viral video that was going around Facebook a while back of a little guy getting caught trying to get some cookies from a high spot (a place he shouldn’t have been). As he was being reprimanded, he kept interrupting his accuser with, “Listen Linda, listen!” He was adamant about his defense being heard. It was a cute video that made us chuckle with his persistence. In all reality, he should have been the one listening to what was being said to him because it was for his own good. His health and wellness were involved, and he didn’t care, because those cookies were his focus.
How often have we been like this little guy? God is trying to tell us things that are for our good, and yet we won’t stop trying to make a case for ourselves (make excuses for our actions). Our focus is on ourselves, even though God has a better plan that can make our lives amazing.
When we decide to not only listen to/read the Word, but to pay attention to what is being said, it will begin to sink down into our heart and mind. That is where you want it. You don’t want to wait until you are in a bind to know what the Bible says. Get that knowledge now, so when things go awry, His Words can give you what you need to get through whatever comes your way.
Keep in mind that the Bible says, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path”. That light can help in keeping your “hand out of the cookie jar” and help you “not lose sight” of all the good stuff God has for you.
Proverbs 4:20-22 NLT
[20] My child, pay attention to what I say. Listen carefully to my words. [21] Don't lose sight of them. Let them penetrate deep into your heart, [22] for they bring life to those who find them, and healing to their whole body.
