I don’t know about you, but I absolutely love a cup of “hot” coffee and a “cold” glass of water. I prefer my coffee hot and my water cold…neither of them are the same when they are lukewarm.

When your relationship with another person is referred to as hot and then cold and then hot again. That is a terrible relationship. On the one hand you are attentive and showering this person with affection and the next thing you know, you are being all “aloof” and uncaring. Then when it benefits you, you start showing that “you care again”. Or is that really caring?

Think about your relationship with God. Do you nurture that relationship through consistent time spent or are you like the church referred to in the Revelation (Laodicean) as “lukewarm” (neither hot or cold)? Are you being useful to Him?

Remember back to when you first surrendered your life to God? That joy you felt was, as the old song says, “Joy unspeakable and full of glory.” You can still feel that same joy. Clean up your life. Quit trying to have one foot in the world (doing things the worlds way) and the other foot in the things of the Lord. That is being double minded and just won’t work out well for you.

Take your faith to the next level by cutting out those things that only bring harm and distance to your relationship with God. Replace with purity of heart and staying near to God. Don’t be an “on again”- “off again” Christian. Be an “everyday”-every situation” mature one.

James 4:8 CEV

[8] Come near to God, and he will come near to you. Clean up your lives, you sinners. Purify your hearts, you people who can't make up your mind.
