Cultivating Faith

Planting a tree and watching it grow to maturity is so cool. I remember many years ago on Arbor Day, my dad helped me plant a couple of trees. They were just twigs at the time. I have since moved from that town but go by there from time to time. The tree right outside the back door is huge. It makes me smile remembering how small it was at the time dad put it in the ground. Great memories of dad, and a great illustration of how something so small could grow into such a mighty oak.
This is how my faith has grown over the years. When I was eight years old, I had lots of faith, but it had to mature over the years into what it is now. I didn’t even realize what I had then. My stature was tiny, and I had my measure of faith. What I did with that faith was up to me. I’ve had times when I allowed my faith to flourish and then times, I allowed it to be stunted from lack of tending to it.
We all receive a “measure of faith” when we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior. We receive faith like Jesus. To grow that faith, we must cultivate it with study, reading good solid devotionals and by listening to good solid Bible teaching. We don’t just automatically have really “strong” faith as a new Christian. What we have is faith that is developed and grows over time into mountain moving faith (if cultivated). We can move those mountains if we activate that Jesus' faith we received when we put our trust in Him.
Don’t allow your faith to become stunted like a plant without water and food. Give it some vitamin C and nourishment from the Bible.
Luke 13:18-19 NLT
[18] Then Jesus said, "What is the Kingdom of God like? How can I illustrate it? [19] It is like a tiny mustard seed that a man planted in a garden; it grows and becomes a tree, and the birds make nests in its branches."
