Our Father, who art in heaven….

Our scripture is a longer reading today, but I wanted you to see some verses that come after the “Lord’s Prayer”. We often say this prayer in unison with others and fail to see all the good stuff that is within it. I will do a whole devotional on it one day. But for today, I want you to know and understand the verses that follow about persistence in prayer.

I believe Jesus knew his crowd so well. He knew that some would want to give up in the heat of the battle without a good ole fight. He wants us all to have that “never give up” attitude when it comes to our faith. And one of those ways of never giving up is in our prayer life.

Maybe you have a friend or relative for whom you have prayed, but it seems that their life has been hijacked by the devil in so many ways. Do ya just give up on them or do you stay persistent in praying for them through it all? I think you know the answer to this.

Verse 9 says keep on asking. Keep on seeking. Keep on knocking. The result will be receiving, finding and the opening of doors for which you have persistently needed in your life.

Luke 11:5-9 NLT

[5] Then, teaching them more about prayer, he used this story: "Suppose you went to a friend's house at midnight, wanting to borrow three loaves of bread. You say to him, [6] 'A friend of mine has just arrived for a visit, and I have nothing for him to eat.' [7] And suppose he calls out from his bedroom, 'Don't bother me. The door is locked for the night, and my family and I are all in bed. I can't help you.' [8] But I tell you this-though he won't do it for friendship's sake, if you keep knocking long enough, he will get up and give you whatever you need because of your shameless persistence. [9] "And so I tell you, keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.
