Being Happy

Happiness is a “weird” thing. Some think they can only be happy when everything in their life is “hunky dory”. If we all waited for that to happen, what a group of pitiful folks we would be.
Life is going to always be a collection of “ups-and-downs”. Your joy comes from your relationship with the Lord, not outward circumstances. Along with that, your joy is enhanced from how you treat those around you.
Today’s scripture follows a verse that is referring to a couple of ladies who were having a dispute of some sort. Paul was wanting them to work it out.
He was showing us in these verses in Philippians that there is more to it than “talking it out”. It involves how you treat each other, and the prayer you put into it.
In the Passion Translation, it says, let gentleness be seen in every relationship” and also, “be saturated in prayer every day!” When you are “saturated” in prayer…you are consulting God in all your decisions and dealings with others.
That’s the approach to true joy. It is difficult to have the kind of happiness you desire when you are at odds with anyone else. Get that straight and move on to all God has for you.
Even if everything is not “hunky dory”, you will have joy, because of your relationship with the Lord, and you have done the things that you know in your heart are the right things to do.
